Update – March 7, 2019

Lately I have been teaching a lot of Cricut classes, most of them at JoAnn Fabrics in Brandon, FL. I created a class called Advanced Design Space because the existing classes didn’t cover some of the more advanced topics that I find people are constantly asking about. One of these topics is how to upload a design and get it to have multiple layers for multiple colors. One way to do this is, of course, to use another program such as Inkscape (a free, fairly easy to use Vector Drawing Program). But for some, learning another program is more than they want to do. In Design Space, you can upload an image multiple times, each time separating out one color. Then when they are all saved, you can add all the different colored parts to one canvas and have multiple layers.

The attached clipart image is the image I use to teach this method in class
